Okay, so what the hell is it?
Quite simply, this is a mix of tropical gin and fruity pale ale, designed to be mixed with tonic water and garnished with a slice of orange or lemon.
And why the big hoo-ha?
No one is really doing this sort of thing yet. It’s ground-breaking and offers a new perspective on gin, as a spirit, and offers new options for gin distilleries to collab with breweries.
...The evolution of the idea should put things into perpective:
Bristol has been home to many a good beer bar for quite some time now, with each venue offering new and exciting flavours and expressions on a near weekly basis. It doesn’t take much effort to find a beer that completely blows your mind, or that tastes absolutely perfect.
One such bar is the Beer Emporium on King Street. A few months ago, I headed in to try a new beer that had been advertised as mind blowing. And it certainly was. That beer got me thinking of ways for gin distilleries to collab with breweries who are consistently putting out amazing beer.
The usual way for a gin distillery to collab with a brewery would be to distil or infuse a selection of hops provided by a brewery or distil a portion of the brewery’s beer into an eau-de-vie and age and/or redistil or infuse with a set of chosen botanicals. These methods are great and yield amazing results.
I wanted to go a step further. I wanted to capture and work with the entire flavour of a ‘mind blowing beer’, including the hops, cereals, fruits, yeasts, waters and any additional ingredients, and not just use hops provided by the brewery.
The main motivation behind this project was to be able to collab with breweries. I wanted to blend the chosen ‘mind blowing beer’ with a gin that would complement the flavour profile of the beer and create a new product/spirit that emphasised flavour elements from both the beer and the gin.
The future goal of this project is to work with different breweries, blending chosen beers with complimentary gins, to create all sorts of new and exciting flavours for the world to try.

What does it actually taste like as a gin and tonic? (our perfect serve)
For the first Escape iteration, we’ve chosen to blend a fruit-forward beer by Poweder Keg Brewery with our easy going Tropical Gin. The fruit flavours in the beer come from the selection of hops used, which pair well with the pineapple, orange and grapefruit, used as main botanicals in the gin.
Like a thirst quenching summer punch, perfect on a warm day or after a long day pretending to work.
On the nose:
A distinct smell of hops and pale ale mixed with subtle piney notes.
In the mouth:
Bold, fruity, tropical punch-like flavours, with a sight bitterness dominate the main profile. Specifically, pineapple, orange, grapefruit and juniper.
Sweet and long, where we begin to identify more of the hoppy elements coming through.
